“You probably already have an idea of the diverse applications and benefits an LMS can have on an organization, but even for the most valuable of tools, it can be hard to get approval for yet another software. Hi, I’m Stephanie, a team member here at Knowledge Anywhere. In our 20 years of experience in the training industry, we have seen certain strategies work well for getting learning management systems approved. In this video, we’re going to share three of the most valuable tactics with you so you can successfully get approval from your organization.
Our first suggestion is short and simple: try not to use the word LMS. By calling the platform ‘learning management system,’ ‘training software,’ or other more familiar names, they will more easily understand what the tool is and be less likely to dismiss your proposal.
The second strategy to help you gain approval is to collect as much data as you can about your company’s current training methods and the learning software. Start with getting a comprehensive view of the training within your organization by asking various teams about the effectiveness of their current training methods. A couple of examples you could try are asking your Sales Manager how long it takes for new associates to make their first sale, asking HR what the employee turnover rate is, and you could also take the time to talk to your support team to see if they think that customers would benefit from better training. In addition to the information about your organization’s training, you should become an expert on LMS software. Learn about the features that are most important to your organization, understand how long the implementation process will be, and determine how much an LMS is going to cost. When you’re an expert in all of these areas, you’ll be able to answer any questions your team has and lay out a logical and convincing case for approval.
Lastly, we have found that highlighting the benefits of an LMS will help you get approval from your organization. Here are five of the most impactful benefits you can use:
The first benefit is improving onboarding. With short attention spans and advanced technology, new employees expect a smooth, organized onboarding process. An LMS allows you to meet these expectations, allowing new employees to be happier and more productive. Better compliance training is another benefit. Having consistent, trackable online compliance training on an LMS ensures that your business meets rules and regulations, avoiding costly missteps and fines.
The third benefit is increased employee retention. According to a 2018 Deloitte study, more than 43% of millennial employees plan to leave their current job within their second year. An LMS can significantly increase employee retention and satisfaction through clear, engaging training and professional development. Learning management systems support revenue growth. Employees can create value in their position faster, sales teams can increase customer satisfaction, and your organization can utilize the platform for personalized external partner training. The fifth and final benefit is customer training. Great customer training offered through an LMS reduces frustration, allows customers to start using your products faster, and decreases support costs. In addition to using these five benefits, ask your potential LMS provider for case studies and examples of how similar companies have seen success after implementing their LMS.
We understand that getting approval from your organization can be one of the most challenging barriers to overcome when implementing an LMS, but now that we’ve given you this insight on the best strategies, you are well-equipped to gain that approval.
